Colletti In Line For Extension

Oct 15, 2014 3:39 AM

The Dodgers are negotiating a long-term contract extension with General Manager Ned Colletti, a high-ranking club official said. The Dodgers have reached the postseason three times in four years under Colletti, whose current deal includes a mutual option for 2010. Colletti, who said earlier this month he would "love" to return to the Dodgers next season, declined to comment on the negotiations. "He's obviously done a very good job," Frank McCourt said. "The team has the best record in the National League. We're on the verge of clinching the division back-to-back [for the first time] in 31 years. I think that speaks for itself."

Scioscia: Abreu Is Angels' MVP

Aug 17, 2014 2:49 PM

Angels manager Mike Scioscia says that Bobby Abreu is the team's MVP this season. "He's brought a special need for our club, a guy with 100 RBIs, 92 runs, all the walks, and he's hit in different spots in the lineup," Scioscia told the Los Angeles Times. "Outside of Chone Figgins, we didn't have a lot of guys working counts. Bobby has brought that. He's a swing guy, a guy who can set the table and drive in a lot of runs." Scioscia opted to pick Abreu over Kendry Morales, who many consider a candidate for the AL's MVP award.

Bonderman Will Return To Rotation Next Season

Oct 15, 2014 3:38 AM

Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman will return to the team's starting rotation in 2010. "I see no reason why he can't be in the rotation next year," manager Jim Leyland told the Detroit Free-Press. "I like the fact he's healthy and his arm appears to be healthy. He should certainly be in the starting rotation." Bonderman has been with the team as a reliever since Sept. 1, the second time he rejoined the team after rehabbing an injury this season.

Francoeur Wants To Remain In New York

Oct 9, 2014 5:19 AM

Mets outfielder Jeff Francoeur has had a good time in New York and hopes to remain with the club. He wants to sit down with New York general manager Omar Minaya to discuss a contract extension this winter. "I'd love for that to happen," Francoeur told Newsday. "I think there's a lot to be said when you feel like you can pencil a guy in for 158 games and not have to worry about rightfield. It can help a manager, and it can help a GM when they're putting a team together. Hopefully, that's how they feel."

Selig Feels Badly For Fans In Pittsburgh

Jun 14, 2014 5:45 AM

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig says that he feels badly for fans in Pittsburgh. "I know how painful this is for the fans in Pittsburgh," Selig told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "But, in watching this management team the past couple of years and how aggressive they've been and how they're restocking the farm system, that's where they had to start. And if they weren't doing it, you'd hear from me." The Pirates have drawn criticism from fans for trading off a majority of their good, more expensive players this season.

Piniella: Cubs Will Replace Bradley

May 11, 2014 5:26 AM

Cubs manager Lou Piniella says that the team will do their best to replace Milton Bradley. "Our general manager Jim Hendry had to do a tough task of sending him home [on Sept. 20], and I'm sure it wasn't very pleasant for him," Piniella said on the "Waddle & Silvy" show on ESPN 1000. "The big thing with Milton this year was the fact he drove in 40 runs. "We needed a big bat to put in the middle part of our lineup, and we thought Milton would be the one. And it just didn't work out, for whatever reason. So we move forward from there and now we try to find somebody else. And I know Jim will work very hard at it." Bradley has two years and just over $21 million left on his contract.

Ricciardi Knows His Job Is In Jeopardy

Oct 26, 2014 5:05 PM

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi has one year left on his contract. Toronto was just 72-84 heading into Monday night's action and the team's attendance has been terrible as of late. The club hasn't made the postseason since they won the World Series in 1993. "I have a year left on my contract," Ricciardi told the Boston Herald, "and until that changes, I'm going to keep working. It's as simple as that. At the end of the year, we'll have to find out what direction ownership wants to go with payroll and see if we want to add or take away. I think we'll know more at the end of the year."

Gaston: It Doesn't Make Sense To Bring Halladay Back

Sep 9, 2014 5:55 PM

Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston doesn't think pitcher Roy Halladay will be with the team in 2010. "If we don't add anybody this winter, or go get somebody that can help, I doubt we keep him," Gaston told the Toronto Sun. "That's my opinion. I don't know that. Would it make any sense to keep him? Probably not." The Jays fielded offers for Halladay prior to this July's trade deadline, but were unable to find a suitable package. The right-hander will be a free agent following the 2010 season.
